Last week I attended the National Nurses in Business Association #NNBA2018 annual conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The energy and enthusiasm of this growing wave of innovation and change was infectious, and I certainly left recharged for taking my ideas forward. I met many people with whom I’ve been connected for a long time on social media, in person for the first time, as well as making many new connections.
Nurse-owned businesses are taking the world by storm because nurses have so many gifts and talents in addition to their knowledge, education, experience, and skills. No nurse takes on a task halfway, they go over and above 100% dedication and commitment.
Nurses go into business for many reasons, but most cite the desire to provide solutions to problems that are not being solved in traditional healthcare, and wanting to provide better services and quality of life to the clients and patients they serve.
I have tried to attend this conference twice in the past and both times unforeseen events occurred and I was unable to make it to the conference. Last year the conference was postponed due to a hurricane! This year I finally made it and now I understand what all the buzz was about. It was beyond any doubt the best conference I have ever attended, the most timely, useful, practical, and professionally relevant set of offerings I could have asked for.
I encourage all nurses who even have an inkling of going into business to attend this conference. I won’t miss it again!
Some of the skills I took away from the conference will be useful in social media and getting the word out about Cancer Harbors, which is currently in a pilot program for group use. Perhaps the most important thing I took away from the conference was my network, which I have expanded with other professionals who share my passion for better care. It always helps to have support and a little cheerleading from the sidelines!
The other thing that’s happening this week is the fourth anniversary of FIERCE class. Our first meeting was October 15, 2014 and tonight we will be celebrating keeping cancer survivors Functional & Fit, Independent, Energized, Restored, Confident, & Empowered.
